About the LTS

The LTS has trained more than a hundred pastors over the past decades for service in the Lutheran Church in Southern Africa [LCSA].

In this time it moved from Madola to Salem [Mpumalanga] and then to Enhlanhleni [KwaZulu/Natal] before locating to Arcadia a suburb of the national capital: Pretoria [Tshwane] at the end of 2000.

Since then it has consciously enrolled students from the rest of Africa too to address the growing need for well trained pastors throughout the continent.

Mission

The LTS develops Christian values, pastoral skills and theological knowledge of its learners as a Lutheran way of life so that they are better prepared for their pastoral roles in the Lutheran Church throughout Africa.

Curriculum

The Holy Scriptures of the Old and New Testament are the source and norm of all true theology. To make their in-depth exegesis, understanding and application possible the study of Hebrew and Greek languages are important prerequisites.

The Lutheran Confessions as true exposition of the Christian Bible form an integral part of the present four-year course in basic Lutheran Theology. Church History und Systematics are taught with a Lutheran bias on orthodoxy and holy living.

As a Seminary of the Lutheran Church in Southern Africa we aim to promote Lutheran Theology in the African context

Connections and friends

The LTS is a member of the confessional Seminaries linked to the International Lutheran Conference [ILC] and is supported by its friends in the Lutheran Church in Southern Africa and the Free Evangelical Lutheran Synod in South Africa, [FELSISA] but also in overseas.

In Germany we have friends mainly in the Independent Evangelical Lutheran Church [SELK in Germany], specifically in the Mission of Lutheran Churches [LKM - Bleckmar].

In the United States our friends are predominantly in the Lutheran Church - Missouri Synod [LCMS in the United States of America], specifically LCMS World Missions and LCMS World Relief and Human Care, both the Concordia Theological Seminaries in Ft.Wayne and St.Louis and finally LCMS districts: Southern Illinois District and Rocky Mountain District.
