Historical Theology [NN]

· CH I,1: The early church: 30 A.D. till Gregory the Great, with special emphasis on the founding of the Church, the ecumenical councils, and St. Augustine. [1 semester].

· CH I,2: The medieval church with special emphasis on the Christianization of Europe, the crusades, the struggle between pope and Caesar, the early reformers.  [1 semester]

· CH II,1: History of Martin Luther with regards to the Reformation of the Church. [1 semester]

· CH II,2: History of the Reformation and Counter-Reformation [1 semester]

· CH III,1: Church History since 1580 until 1900 special emphasis on the founding of the Lutheran church in Southern Africa and the Evan­gelical Lutheran Churches in the world [1 Semester]

· CH III,2: Church History in the 20th century with special emphasis on Confessional Lutheranism (ILC) and Ecumenism (LWF)

This course should make the students understand the relevance of historical context and development with special emphasis on the mission of the Church throughout the ages.
