SYMBOLICS

· Sym I,1: The Ecumenical Creeds (Sym II,1). The study of the three Ecumenical Creeds with the aim of attaining an introductory knowledge of their historical background and to know the English translation of both the Apostolic and Nicene Creeds off by heart. [1 Quarter]

· Sym I,2: The Small Catechism and Large Catechism. The study of the Catechism with the aim of knowing Luther's Small Catechism off by heart and of attaining a thorough understanding of its explanation as found in the version published by CPH in 1991 and also of the Lutheran doctrine and life according to Luther's Large Catechism. [3 Quarters]

· Sym I,2,1: The Ten Commandments [1 Quarter]

· Sym I,2,2: The Apostolic Faith and the “Our Father” [1 Quarter] 

· Sym I,2,3: Baptism, Confession and the Lord’s Supper [1 Quarter]

· Sym II,1: The study of the Smalcald Articles [SA] with the Treatise on the Power and Primacy of the Pope to attain a detailed knowledge of their origin, historical background and contents.  [1 Quarter]

· Sym II,2-4: The study of the Augsburg Confession [CA] and its Apology [AC] to attain a fundamental, thorough and systematic knowledge of their origin, historical background and contents. It is expected of the students to know the first twenty-one articles of the CA off by heart.

· Sym II,2: CA 1-21

· Sym II,3 CA 22-28

· Sym II,4: Apology of the CA

· Sym III,1: The study of the Formula of Concord [Epitome and Solid Declaration: FC] to attain a fundamental knowledge of its origin, historical background and contents.

· Sym III,2: The study of the Theology of the Book of Concord to attain a fundamental and systematic overview of its purpose, meaning and relevance today.

 

 

Systematics [Sys I – II]

An introduction to systematic theology with the aim of attaining an overall knowledge of Christian doctrine according to the holy scriptures of the Old and New Testament and the Confession of the Evangelical Lutheran Church, and of attaining the capability of judging false doctrine.

· Sys I,1: Theology and Holy Scriptures, God and Creation  [1 Semester]

· Sys I,2: Anthropology and Christology [1 Semester]

· Sys II,1: Justification and Sanctification. [1 Semester] 

· Sys II,2: The means of Grace; Church and Ministry; Eschatology. [1 Semester]
